Do You Make Her Stay, or Do You Let Her Go?
Ok I am going to pop another question for you dads. This is one you should start thinking about now if you haven’t already. Maybe some of you have already experienced something similar to this. I am going to provide a scenerio similar to the one that was asked a few days ago by Liz at Successful-Blog.
Scenerio:
Your 16 year old daughter has been reading a blog of a young man who is 19. You’ve visited his blog and find it extremely repulsive. He writes about music andgirls… lots and lots of other girls. His blog shows all kinds of pictures of them, some a bit skimpy to say the least. He reveals a lot about his past relationships and encourages comments where there are other guys similar who make sexual inuendos etc. Your daughter also has a blog and this boy has been reading it and they have been commenting on each other’s blogs for several months.
Today your daughter has told you that the young man is coming to visit your city and will be staying at the local chain motel. She’s so looking forward to seeing him. Do you let her go? Make her stay home? What ground rules do you set for the visit?

I would beat that punk and tell him t get lost. A sexual relationship, which is presumably what is going to go on, between the two would be illegal in most if not all states. And besides what kind of sick, twisted 19 yr old is interested in a 16yr old?
Tony, I hear ya on this one. I wouldn’t let her go and I sure hope she wouldn’t even want to go.
“What kind of twisted 19 yr old is interested in a 16yr old?”
When I was in high school there were a lot of seniors dating freshmen. This situation is only one year later. How many years apart is your age from your wife’s?
I’m not sticking up for the guy though. I don’t have a daughter, but when I think of my niece doing that, I think I might go Uncle Buck on his butt!
How many years apart is your age from your wife’s?
When those three years constitute 15% or more of your entire life, it’s a much different ballgame. (BTW, in my case it’s 9 months.)
I’m going on the record now and saying: “Hell no!” I’ll be bookmarking this to show my own daughter in a decade that I’m not making it up spur of the moment to ruin her life.
And if either of my boys turn into that 19-yr old, well I’ll buy ‘em a beer… because they won’t live to be old enough to buy it for themselves legally. After the beer, I’ll kill them.
Nice, I hear ya. Hopefully my boy(s) will be decent enough and know how to treat a lady. I work hard on my son now and he looks after his older sister at school.
Teachers mention it. He looks out for his sister. You can tell a lot about a person on how they treat their mother and their siblings.
By the way, I spent some time at your blogs last night. Good stuff!
You hit the nail on the blad man, it is not the age difference that is so important, it is the level of maturity.
“And if either of my boys turn into that 19-yr old, well I’ll buy ‘em a beer… because they won’t live to be old enough to buy it for themselves legally. After the beer, I’ll kill them.”
lol
Yea that is funny stuff LOL
I think I would let her see him but he would have to come over to our home. I wouldn’t want her alone in a motel room with him and if I forbid her to go, she might sneak out anyway.
My husband may have a different solution. *wink*
I would let her go but I get to come along and chat with the young lad. And as Matt says I may go Unkle Buck on his Ass.
No way would my daughter go …you have got to be out of your mind to think I would even consider allowing this.
This guy could be who knows what, and what type of plans do you suppose He would have for my daughter at a motel ??
First off.. the dude ain’t Christian..
that x’s him right off the list and world as far as this MOM is concerned.
no way..would sick my English Mastiff on him if I saw him coming in the distance~
I would start collecting baseball bats once again, practice my aim in shooting, gather all the poison ivy I could find and sneak in and rub all his jeans and underwear with it~
the answer would be
NO
and that’s it~

I put it this way: I want my boys to be the kind of men I want my daughter to marry.
Well said from one bald man to another.
Mea, I was wondering when you were going to head over and visit me.. welcome.
I agree with you. My personal answer is NO, NO, NO, and NO I don’t want to meet him, NO you can’t see him, and NO you cannot use my computer anymore. The answer is NO.
LOL at Mea. I think I’d let her arrange the meeting with him and then send my husband instead of her. LOL
