Do You Use Etsy for Your Quilting Store?

Etsy has become a buzz word among quilters, fabric artists, and crafters.  This is where they sell their items to a global audience.  I haven’t set myself up there yet, but my daughter registered and now is getting organized.

Karen, at b5media’s new blog, Pink Ribbon Review, in the Science and Health Channel, mentions her enjoyment of Etsy: Your place to buy and sell all things handmade.”

Do any of you sell on Etsy?  Would you share your experiences with us?

Hi…just saw your post on my Google alert and thought I’d give you some input. I’ve been selling on Etsy since Jan.’06 as NoDuplicates, with my store name actually being Eclectic Oddities. I am selling some of my quilts, but haven’t listed them all, since I don’t have pictures of a lot of them. I do, however sell other things in my shop, and though I’m not setting the world on fire, it is one way to keep myself occupied since my retirement from teaching.

Last May I opened a second shop FabricAnnex.etsy.com to sell off a lot of my “stashed” quilt fabrics, and that seems to do quite well. I have a house full of collected fabrics both for quilts and garments, and the bit that I have sold doesn’t even leave a dent in the clutter!

It is quite easy to sign up to sell, or to buy on Etsy…actually easier to buy, since you don’t have to give a CC# (credit card) to buy…people use Paypal either with that money account, or as a way to use a credit card…just have to have a user name and a password, just like on Amazon or eBay, etc.

The community in the Forums is, for the most part very pleasant and informative, and once you join I suggest you definitely read the Do’s and Don’t, as well as the Terms of Use. These cover a lot of questions you will have and many of which are repeatedly asked in the Forums by people who haven’t done their homework, so to speak.

Do come and look around, and try the various ways to shop which you will find listed on the left side of the home page….all are really fun “flash” sections and you can spend hours going through the “treasuries”, or “pouncing” or looking for items by “color”.

Hope this has helped and look forward to seeing your reactions to the site!

    Judith
