Healthology is one of the many health-related resources on the Internet. It’s also one of the good ones. That’s why I’m glad to tell you about this video, called What is Chronic Pain? that is hosted on their site. In the video, doctors who work with patients who have chronic pain discuss how many patients, particularly the older ones, don’t talk about their pain to their doctors. I discussed this earlier in my post, Talking to your doctor about pain. In that post, you can find an audio link that discusses the best ways to discuss your pain.
The doctors also talk about how chronic pain affects quality of life and the different types of medications (analgesics) they can suggest, including over-the-counter medications like NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories), such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen, or prescription medications, such as narcotics (morphine, etc).
It’s a good video to help understand some of the treatment issues faced by doctors today.
