Dogs detect disease

I’m a sucker for animal stories, especially animals that can detect illness:

Pamela Plante’s dog knew something she didn’t.

Plante’s leg was feeling sore when she walked and, as usual, she tried to ignore her aches and pains. But this time her 7-pound Yorkshire terrier, Morgan, wouldn’t let her. The dog kept jumping at her aching leg, making it worse.

Studies have shown that animals’ keen sense of smell can alert them to when something is wrong with a person, and people’s lives have been saved when their pets have alerted them or others to a problem.
