Donald Friend's diary

Donald Friend is generally better known for his art, but he was also an avid journal keeper. The National Library of Australia currently has an exhibition, Donald Friend; A Charmed Life of 44 of the 46 diaries he kept since he was 27.

Although, Friend did keep journals as a younger man he was inspired to begin again when he joined the army. This is one exhibition I’d love to see, but you can still purchase some of his published diaries, though you may find some of them a bit expensive:
The genius of Donald Friend : drawings from the diaries 1942-1989

Donald Friend’s Bali: An exhibition arranged in conjunction with the Donald Friend reptrospective, 9 February-25 March 1990

Donald Friend, Australian war artist, 1945

A collection of Hillendiana: Comprising vast numbers of facts and a considerable amount of fiction, concerning the goldfield of Hillend and environs, with … grave and ribald, accurate and untrustworthy

Yeah, those are the titles.
