Don’t bother with the cocoa butter

Those stretch marks left behind after pregnancy bother lots of women, so there’s a big market out there for manufacturers to try to sell their products.

Cocoa butter has long been recommended as a way to prevent or reduce stretch marks in pregnancy. But according to an article published recently in BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, August 2008, women in a study who used cocoa butter from the first trimester on, did not have any differences in the appearance and severity of stretch marks.

    It may not fight stretch marks, but a nice, thick cocoa butter lotion like Palmer’s does wonders for relieving the itchiness and skin discomfort from a stretching belly.
