Don’t try this at home
‘This’ meaning ’shattering a half-full bottle of olive oil on the kitchen floor.’ While barefoot. And letting dinner burn while you clean up. Trust me, it’s not as fun as it sounds.
Anyone else have any kitchen disaster stories to share?

I dropped my bottle of olive oil on Saturday. It didn’t break but some of it landed on my jeans and woolen slippers… yuk.
That sucks and must have been a big pain to clean up, especially in the midst of prepairing dinner.
Having done this with both olive oil and safflower oil (on different occasions, I’m not that bad!), I can attest to the fact that safflower oil is a million times ickier. It’s uncleanup-able in fact! Hope your feet are lovely and soft from the oil and not all cut from the glass!
This picture cracked me up, mostly due to its uncanny similarity to my incident with an Amy’s Vegetable Lasagna.
Worst spill though was a bottle of fish sauce on the carpeted floor of our apartment building’s elevator. Not my fault, I swear.
i’ve got a horror story from just last night as it so happens! i was cooking up some dried chick peas, which i had left soaking all day. come evening, i put them on the stove, and then promptly forgot about them for 2 hours. this is not something i recommend trying.. the water boiled away, and i was left with a horrible blackened mess in (and adhered to!) the pan. not very fun to clean up! although, this was actually the first time i’d ever done anything like that, so i guess there’s a first for everything! the whole thing was actually kind of hilarious, in a horrible, burned on kind of way, my house mate and i got a good laugh out of it!
LOL! I’ve done what Sonja did about three times in as many months!
Three years ago, I bought a new wok which caught on fire the first time I used it. I panicked, did everything one is not supposed to do with a kitchen fire, and ended up with singed hair and eyebrows! I still can’t believe I reacted the way I did; so much for “calm, cool and collected!”
Oh, what a mess! Hope you weren’t hurt. I’ve dropped and spilled a large bottle of liquid soap on the floor once and thought that was bad until I saw your olive oil! Bet that was difficult to clean up.
Oh man, that sucks!
Things also not to try:
1. bringing syrup in a glass bottle home in your checked baggage
2. cooking during cat feeding time.
Nooooo Jul, that must have been so disappointing. And what a waste of oil and dinner.
Last week I was trying to concoct a recipe for Apple & Oat bars for a client. Took my five goes to get the recipe right. The first two batches were so disastrous I had to throw them out. Not even my “eat anything” partner would have them.
