Downsizing and Career Change

What Color Is Your Parachute? 2007: A Practical Manual for Job-Hunters and Career-Changers (What Color Is Your Parachute)I envy people who really know what they want to do when they grow up.

Sure, I have two degrees and a job in my field (nursing), but, I really have yet to figure out what I have a passion for other than shopping and going out to eat.

Making your dreams happen isn’t always easy, especially when there is family involved. We all fantasize about a dream job, but, making it happen can be something different.

Over at Dadbloggers, Holmesey tell us how he is doing just that, taking a risk with a career change and downsizing to make it happen:

So this basically meant my wife and I had to reevaluate some things, revisit our goals, our values, what we consider to be most important in life, not to mention the kind of example that we want to set for our son and the kind of life that we want to give him and any other kids we may have.

While I try very hard to make sure my children believe they can be anything they want to be with hard work, I probably need to adjust this encouragement to include an emphasis on the importance of doing something you love.

Now, how to do that when I feel like my job is “OK”, but, knowing it’s just what I need to do right now for my stage in life.

Aye, there’s the rub.

Oh man, I’m right there with you. Career change is my middle name, but I have no room to downsize much more than this.

It’s funny how you say that you love to shop and eat. There’s people who make a living doing those things. It’s funny how life has a way of making you think, just because we are not kids, we can’t still choose what we want to be when we “grow up”.In ten years today will be the past. Semper fi!

  3. Maybe this is the wrong blog to say this on, but after thinking for years that nothing would be more boring than being a stay-at-home mom, that’s what I found I loved doing, and have been doing it for over 18 years!

I agree, Nothing I love more than being homw with my son. I missed 2 years of his life because of work. Now I’m home with him and it’s the best for him and I. There are many opptions for stay at home moms these days. I’ve tried many, some work some don’t but they are out there.

I think that is great for the two commenters above, but obviously this particular blog is aimed at helping us working moms out so that we can also do the best parenting job possible.
