Dr. Bruce Lahn at Gene Expression
Gene Expression has an interview up with Dr. Bruce Lahn, who I called a genetics trendsetter in June.
The quote I found most interesting from the interview:
…genetic engineering, coupled with other technologies such as pre-implantation genetic screening, would likely speed up evolution enormously, and create life forms, including those derived from our own species, in ways that the Darwinian process can never hope to accomplish.

in ways that the Darwinian process can never hope to accomplish.
Actually, I find that kind of an odd statement. The “Darwinian process” does not have any hopes, goals, or accomplishments.
Great point River!
What I find also interesting is an attitude of many in the scientific community. Lahn seems resolved that the genetic engineering of humans is a foregone conclusion. Is it? Should it be?
I have noticed that there is a fundamental belief in many scientific circles that if science can, it should and will.
Dear Doctor Lahn,
When I turned fifty one I began pulling people’s pain, diseases, etc from their bodies using my right palm. I’ve been to an acupuncture clinic for my own pain and was told I was born with two chi s.
So if my genes can help in your studies I’d be glad to help. John Horning 949 858 4499
