I was bottled fed from the get go! I did not want breast milk. My IQ is in the 155 and I do not have a weight issues, my skin is flawless and I am emotionally stable. By the way my brother is 3 years younger than me and he wasn't breastfeed either, he rejected as well.

Neither one of my parents are stable; my mother is bi-polar, my father is a paranoid delusional schizophrenic. We were raised on goats milk. However, being caught up in a Stephen King novel for 18 years had more of an effect on us than this milk issue.

By the way, my immune system is just as good as the next persons and I have never broken a bone! Despite playing softball( hind catcher) for 15 years, being in 3 over 60 mph car accidents and falling off a one story roof..

Letting another person breastfeed your baby is odd.

My IQ is already 147. I'd hate to see what affect breast milk might have had since sometimes being smarter is not better. It doesn't give you perspective, only the ability to understand more complexity. I just can't believe that God wouldn't pair our child with the best milk possible. Cow's milk is best for calves, breast milk is best for human babies.

I could not breastfeed due to congenital birth defects, and used a milk bank, for which I paid for dearly - $600 per child. Breastmilk is the healthiest option. I would have no problem with hiring a wet nurse, but people are squeamish. Re - the cross contamination argument, Don't you SHOWER? It's always these people who will stick their tongues down anyone's throat at a bar who are the first to yell "Bacteria!". And kudos to the cow argument - yes, how well do we really know our cows? Have you even visited a dairy farm? Breast is best - it provides protection against allergies and illness. I am happy to have spent the money on this investment in my children's health.
A note to adoption lady: let go of the guilt, you'll be happier, and so will your kids.

I've read that bovine (cow) milk may contribute to type 1 diabetes (I was bottle fed and now have type 1 diabetes). Moreover I read in a psychological journal that people who were breastfed average 10 points higher on standard I.Q. tests (s.d. = 15 points). I think that is very significant.

I think breastmilk is best for babies, but I am not "militant" about it. If a mother can't or doesn't want to breastfeed her child, it's her right as that child's mother to choose to formula feed him/her and in all probability the baby will be perfectly fine and healthy. In Sammy's sisters case, I think she was perfectly within her rights as a mother to call the police. Now, I don't think a nursing mother needs to be thrown in jail for this, but the woman WAAAY overstepped her bounds in breastfeeding another womans baby without express permission. I would feel just as strongly if she had given the baby a bottle of formula when the mother supplied a bottle of her own pumped breastmilk. It's just WRONG on a lot of levels, what if the child had allergies or something? In any case it could cause tummy upsets, and as Sammy pointed out, her sister had no way of knowing what the other mother's health was like, what she had been eating or drinking, medications she was taking, etc.

and additionally, breast milk is as God intended it. Who's to say that all of us brought up on bottles are weaker because of it? I am a Type 1 diabetic and facing a cancer scare. I am not sure it's fair to blame Mom, but certainly breast milk is what Nature intended. My grandmother didn't believe in microwaves and as a result, neither do I. But isn't it odd that so many cancer diagnoses are happening in the "modern" world? Breast milk and heating stuff up in the oven might help with that.

That's interesting. I assume the caregiver is also "christian" and felt she was doing the "christian" thing by taking care of the baby. But your sister thinks this woman could have a disease. I would imagine Jesus is throwing up at the hypocrisy at this point.

Well my sister is furious, because when she went to church on Wednesday night and left her baby in the nursery, the care giver NURSED HER BABY WITHOUT HER CONSENT. My sister walked back to check on er baby during the service, and the lady was FEEDING HER BABY. My sister does not breast feed, had brought a bottle for the baby, but the nursery worker "does not believe in formula". Needless to say my sister threw a fit and went so far as to call the police. Who knows what that woman could have!

I am a 24 yr old mother of two. when my daughter was 2 months old my mother took in a new born baby. he had a real hard time keeping down any formula, if anyone reading this has had acid reflux they know that it hurts. he vomits everytime he eats and one day we were camping and without a car or store nearby my mom ran out of formula. i feed him my breatmilk straight from me and although it took him a while to latch on he ate better than ever and most important he held it down. since i have pumped as often as posible so that he can have as much breastmilk as he wants. still to this day 3 months later he only spits up when feed formula. i cant believe that any mom out there would see an infant suffering and not help. we have all donated money to feed the poor why not give what God gave us for free. my daughter at 7 months still doesnt eat baby food (she wont take it) weighs 20 lbs when my nephew who is 1 1/2 months older and eats 4 meals a day of baby food and formula in between only weighs 14 lbs. i have more milk than i know what to do with and would be happy to sell give or be a wet nurse. if dr phil wants to peek and explore the down side there are millions of men that as adults want to be breastfeed and lie to sellers about having babies who need so they can fullfill their fedish.

I am 23 years old and trying to get pregnant, but no luck yet. I am also vegan, and I oppose the idea of using a dairy based formula for my child should I be unable to breastfeed. I also oppose the idea of using a soy based formula . . . I would certainly love the idea of a wet-nurse, someone (hopefully vegan) who would be willing to help out in case I couldn't. That being said I don't think you should do it unless you have a reason . . . like just handing your child around in a circle or boobs seems a bit odd. But if you are sick or if you can't breastfeed yourself, or if your child is allergic to formula or whatever . . . I don't see anything wrong with it, it seems totally natural to me. In fact I would prefer it that way.
