Dragon Beard Candy

In June I had written about Dragon Beard Candy. My order had come and I never got to post about it. We kept it under refrigeration, taking a couple out every few days or so. It’s unusual in that we’ve never had anything like it, so it’s the novelty that’s the attraction here. However, I can’t say I’d be missing much if I don’t ever get a taste of it again. It would be nice to buy it from a vendor who makes it right in front of me, but I can’t say it’s an essential thing to add to your list of “100 things to try/eat before you die”. The kids did love the crunchy sugary peanuty creation, but not any more than chocolates or other sweets that they’ve tried. Can’t argue with the cleverness of the idea though. Whoever thought of pulling sugar like this into thousands of threads and wrapping it around something crunchy was genius. Perhaps a similar application using other fillings would be interesting — say, some matcha-flavored cream…. just thinking aloud.

I am addicted to dragon’s beard candy and know two places you get get it for sure. (There are places in HK or Canada, but I don’t go there often enough to know). There is one store that sells it in NYC chinatown. I have a picture of the place with the address across the street in the reflection. It’s on Elizabeth St. The other place is in Daly City (near San Francisco) at Koi Palace. Both places make it right in front of you!
