Treatment of fibromyalgia is difficult and frustrating for many. One study presented at the American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM), taking place in Kissimmee, Florida, investigated the use of duloxetine, an antidepressant (brand name Cymbalta) for the management of fibromyalgia pain.
You can read about the study’s findings at the Doctor’s Guide to the Internet.

One of my family member’s is currently taking Cymbalta to help with both depression and fibromyalgia. It’s really too soon to determine whether or not it’s helping her, but I pray it does (and then continues to) because – speaking from experience – the withdrawal from Cymbalta is a living nightmare. It was for me and so many other people with whom I’ve talked. It frustrates me that this kind of information is insufficiently presented (if presented at all) in so many reports/studies/etc. There are numerous support groups, message boards, and the such around the Internet dedicated to helping and providing support for people who are withdrawing from Cymbalta; however, it’s very rare to hear about these horrible symptoms from any medical article.
(I posted about my own Cymbalta-withdrawal experiences back in October, and the comments from people suffering the same kind of symptoms still continue to roll in. I linked to it under my name in this comment just in case anyone’s interested, and so as not to clog up your comments section with links, Marijke

Don’t get me wrong – I’m all for people taking medication that helps them. But the withdrawal symptoms from Cymbalta scare the hell out of me, as does the idea that some medicines tend to “stop working” after a while, which means many people will want to stop taking it and, as a result, risk experiencing these symptoms.
