If you’re setting a fancy table for Thanksgiving, all the better, because you’re likely using real dishes and cloth napkins – both eco-friendly choices. BUT, what about the place cards? Well, you’ve got some options which include making your own or buying some eco-friendly options. Here are some ideas.
Store bought eco-friendly place cards:

If you’re going to purchase route look for non-toxic and recyclable materials and look for products that serve the purpose (or many purposes) for the long haul. I LOVE these Bird Cheese Markers (shown above) from Beehive Kitchenware – yeah they’re cheese holders but if you stick them in a small personal size pumpkin pie, or another small sturdy object they’ll stand up and look so cute as place cards. Made with lead free pewter with stainless steel tines. Comes with additional standard paper labels so you can write your own or print from your computer. Very cute, but more pricey. However, you can use them forever, for all sorts of cool parties. See more ideas in the gallery below…
- Plantable seed place cards in Leaf – so cute and can be taken home by guests as a little gift. Grows wildflowers when planted.
- Mini Flower Pot Place Card Holder – reusable and fun. Use fall colored paper for the flowers.
- Nesting bird place card made with sustainably harvested yellow birch.
- All Natural, Eco Friendly Pod Place Cards – unique and easy.
Make your own:
- Recycle old wine corks and stick a slip of recycled heavy weight paper stock into the top (cut a small slit) for labeling.
- Use tiny gourds or pumpkins for place markers.
- Really cute idea for little herb, flower, or seedling place markers.
- Gather pine cones, clean, and even sprinkle with glitter. Place small name slips of recycled paper between the cone spaces.
- Use dried fall leaves to create perfect place card settings.
