Edible craft

I just found this great post that tells you how to make a fun craft that you can eat too, and it helps prevent waste.

We eat a lot of bread around here. My husband takes two or three sandwiches to work each day, my youngest eats a PB & J for breakfast, and I have two slices of toast every morning. My oldest isn’t too crazy about sandwiches, but between the rest of us, we clear a lot of bread. However, somehow the ends never get eaten unless we’re desperate – neither the crusts nor the first slice in on either end.

This idea is great though, and will make your kids WANT to eat it! Basically, you mix a bit of milk with some food coloring, then use a clean (preferably new) paintbrush to paint on some bread that’s not too fresh. You can also toast it first.

Once their masterpieces are done, they can go ahead and eat it up!

I think I only have red food coloring left. I’ll have to see if they’d like to paint hearts on some bread to get started, but I think I have a good activity for Saturday morning!
