Educator Gets Environment Award

Jeffrey Grills is an educator and a teacher. And while doing that, he also uses up his time to work for the environment. He was also able to spearhead a project wherein a bare piece of land at the Lincoln Elementary School became one of the greenest sites in the area after he had successfully planted more than 200 trees and other plants.
This project of Grills has paved the way for him to receive an award for being a guardian and protector of the environment. The award is the Tawes Award for a Clean Environment.
On his project, Grills shares, “We specifically planted a variety of species, so if one is wiped out, the others aren’t. There’s a peregrine falcon nesting. We haven’t found the nest, but we know it’s there.”
How he does all of these and still be able to do his duties as a teacher, he tells, “It’s beyond my job description, but I work it into my schedule. I might go out and water the trees early in the morning.”

Very cool. I’ve often wondered what would happen if a business or school or simply a neighborhood would get together and plant. Make the area beautiful. If just this one guy can do all this, imagine what a group of people could do.
They could definitely make a big difference.
