Elegy for Iris

May 10, 2006 by Mary Emma Allen

Written by her husband, John Bayley, Elegy for Iris, tells of their life before and after novelist Iris Murdoch was stricken with Alzheimer’s disease.  He became her caregiver after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 1994.  This memoir depicts the good, the bad, and the sad as this brilliant woman was overtaken by this disease.

This also is a book by a male caregiver and could encourage men who are involved with the care of a family member who has Alzheimer’s or some form of dementia.
