Emeril Live Is Cancelled!

Emeril

Yes, you heard it food fans, BAM!!  It seems to happen that quickly.  The executives have made the decision to cancel Emeril Live!  I am dismayed, but sadly not shocked.  The Food Network has been sadly turning to a line-up I am beginning to more than just dislike.  Not only are they showing the very names that built the Food Network the door, but they are also basically telling the loyal food fans to move out of the way for other viewers.

Admittedly, Emeril Live has been airing for 10 years.  That is actually an incredible run for any TV show standard, but to not even give him another show?  As of now, The Essence of Emeril will continue during the day.  They want to reserve the Prime Time slots for what they call entertainment.

From The Business of Television:

Losing new Live episodes comes as Food transitions from being able to rely upon its veteran talents like Lagasse and Mario Batali — who appears on Food’s Iron Chef America but whose Molto Mario has been in reruns for three years—and tries to build up new ones, like Guy Fieri, one winner of its The Next Food Network Star competition. The spiky blond-haired and tattooed Fieri just got a second and third-season pickup from the network for his show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

Emeril Live has been an incredible journey and a great collaboration between Emeril Lagasse and Food Network for over 10 years,” the network said in a statement released Monday. ”Emeril has been the cornerstone of Food Network’s success and helped to pave the way for chefs on TV. Food Network and Emeril look forward to continuing our long partnership, and Emeril remains an integral part of the Food Network family.”

Hmmmm, this sounds somewhat familiar….have we heard these words before.  Maybe Emeril should compare notes with Mario Batali.

    Bummer, I really enjoy Emeril.

  2. Kate says:

It sounds like the Food Network is shooting itself in the ffoot and alienating both talent and its core audience.

  3. farley says:

While I’m not personally an Emeril fan, I see where you’re going with this and agree to an extent. Some of the shows are too ‘produced’ to feel real. I even feel like my beloved Paula Deen is changing….

  4. Yes, I don’t quite no what they are thinking. They have all these reality/competition shows, but they also air them constantly. I can maybe see a couple of nights with this type of line-up, even having something like Emeril Live being just once a week. But how many different ways are there to watch people decorate a cake or prepare a meal for a party. All of the “reality characters” seem to just be repeats of themselves. It’s like TLC with Miami Ink, LA Ink and now London Ink. I am sorry, but these people are only so interesting and one or two similar shows are fine, but it is becoming overkill all over the television airwaves.

  5. John M. Swanson says:

Foodnetwork you are not with the audience.
Emeril is foodnetwork. Guy and some of the new ones are good but not that good. Emeril is
an anchor and you just sunk the boat.

  6. Gary Pike says:

well I was wondering when it would happen i see more infomercials headed our way . Foodnetwork is screwing up a lot faster then PBS when PBS lost most of their shows and now you have show for 3 weeks and fund raising the other 49 weeks with 20 year old shows. I am sure he will kick butt somewhere else as those jokers in the office scratch their butt and asks ‘what happened”

  7. Michael says:

Emeril is and always will be the King! He built food tv. The network will certainly be taken down a major notch without his presence. Emeril we love you. You’re the greatest there ever was! Start your own food network and take the viewers with you.

  8. Mandy Griff says:

Emeril was such a cornerstone of foodnetwork. I mean it’s refreshing to tune in and watch someone who is actually entertaining without having to seduce the camera, show her boobs or sport his tattoos. Thank god Alton Brown is still here. And I really do hate the cooking challenges.

  9. Matt y says:

Im glad Emeril is cancelled. Watching him be condescending to the viewers over and over was just too much. And if I have to hear one more comment about “Smellovision” Im going to puke. He uses the same jokes over and over. “Its not rocket science” comments are too much, considering that his show was meant for the home cook. Its obvious that Emeril only does it for the money.

  10. John Moultrie says:

I am sorry Emerul is gone in terms of his “live show”.. Where do home cooks who want to learn go.. He was a role model as well as an educator for us who want to learn more..Thanks

  11. Laurie K says:

Emeril has “personality”. The network is making a big mistake cancelling his show. He is a great chef and a joy to watch. How about cancelling someone like Giada Delorentis who can’t seem to do anything but smile throughout the show looking fake and put-on for the cameras.

  12. John B says:

WHY CANCEL?? ARE THEY NUTS! HE (EMERIL) IS THE FOOD NETWORK. HE “MADE” THEM, IT’S A SHAME THAT FOOD NETWORK HAS TO BE SO SHALLOW AND NOT EVEN POLL AN AUDIENCE OR ONLINE USERS. I’M NOT EVEN GONNA WATCH FN ANYMORE. FN SUCKS BIG TIME, SELL OUTS. DELETING THIS CHANNEL FROM MY TIVO NOW. I NEVER EXPECTED THEM TO PULL THIS SHOW ;( WHY? WHY??? WHY??? FOOD NETWORK COME ON GET A GRIP ON REALITY EMERIL IS NOT A PASSING FAD. HE IS JUST AS GOOD IF NOT BETTER THAN CHEF RAMSAY!!! OTHER NETWORKS PICK EMERIL UP (ANYONE!!!) DON’T LET HIM GO.

  13. Judy Rosso says:

    They cancelled the wrong show!!
    RACHAEL ARE YOU LISTENING????

  14. Louise W. says:

Emeril was what led me to the Food Network. He was informative but entertaining at the same time. I agree with previous postings–tired of the fake smiles for the camera, the crooked smile of Rachel Ray, the cleavage; I’ll be by-passing FN from now on. What a loss; Emeril was good; all your challenges are a waste of my time.

  15. Pam H says:

Emeril will be a loss to the food Network. He is such an inspiration to many people. He even has kids interested in food/cooking and just being in the kitchen. Really a stupid move on the food Networks part.

  16. Rich S says:

We all have learned from watching Emeril. He is an inspiration to the people who are not the best cooks. Thank you Emeril for all the great recipes. I look forward to seeing you somewhere else. And for all those negative comments, you must be watching the show or you wouldn’t have responded to this. Happy cooking

  17. Frank M. says:

That’s great news. He was fun in the beginning with his quirky, quaint homegrown style but as the network and the audience grew, he became dated. He often times failed to name an ingredient he added, mispronounced words, used the wrong words and bammed a little too much.

Rachel Ray should sleep with one eye open. She could be next. Her unsophisticated style and truck stop recipes may have an audience as Emeril did but perhaps not the audience the network or advertisers want.

Although Giada is great in my opinion, I have one complaint that makes it difficult for me to watch her. They shoot her from a high angle with a wide-angle lens. It gives her a t-rex look…big head and t-rex arms.

  18. rich says:

My favorite show on Food Network is Emeril Live. He has corny jokes and of course uses them over and over again, but his show is fun and entertaining and helpful. The new shows I find do not have the appeal, class or interest for me. My Dad always taught me that you dance with the one that brought you and Emeril certainly has brought the Food Network to where it is today. I, for one, am very disappointed.

  19. Marion Laughlan says:

I am really upset that Emeril Live is being taken off Food Network. I have enjoyed his programs for a long number of years. He will be missed.

I have enjoyed Emeril Live for a long number of years, and am really upset that he is being taken off the network. Why change something that works?

  20. C says:

Its sad to see food network forget their ROOTS. If you ask me Emeril is food network,I can recall watching him when I was young (emeril’s first season)when food network was nothing. Emeril live has been a huge part in launching this network.Fans dont forget let downs like this!

  21. Jim says:

This is a real let down! With all the junk that is on TV, you can turn to Emeril and enjoy on whole hour of fun and information! The Food Network is like the attack on Dec 7……..he will rise to new heights!

  22. JUDY H. says:

i am so sad to think Emeril ’s show is being cancelled. He has taught a lot of us ,so much about cooking .Why does FN have to go with shows l “Next FNBStar.etc. They do not have the
,talent and knowledge like Emeril, Sara Moulton,
    Alton Brown,. Ina Garten.
I donT understand where they are going with the lower scale cooking shows. As long as they are cutting shows ,how about just have Rachel on for just 30 min. a day. Her screaming and fast talking reminds me of the old Sellers at the State Fairs as they tried to get you to buy gadgets that never worked once you got them home.

  23. shawne says:

have to agree w/the idea of cutting down on rachel’s spots. enjoy her, but not as much as the airtime FN gives her. losing emeril will hurt FN in the long run considering the mediocrity they seem to want on board as new talent (please, amy finely, what a disappointment). if FN wants to add to its stable why doesn’t it approach someone like chefs john besh or david bull as examples. or offer a more diverse catagory of cooking: ethnic-true latin/south american, true eastern/asian/middle east types-pastry, confections, cheese&wine making shows, healthy gourmet: low sodium, reduced fats (yes, there is ellie kreuger but they don’t do enough with her), and cooking for those who can not afford high priced, imported, exotic and just plain unavailable food items.
i doubt emeril will have any trouble finding things to do with his spare time time but he will be missed. he brought me back into the kitchen with humor and new understanding.

  24. Peggy says:

I, too, agree that FN has made a huge mistake cancelling Emeril Live. Less than 6 months ago, I heard that there was an 8-year waiting list for people to get tickets to his show, so I cannot for the life of me understand what possessed the powers-that-be to pull the plug…unless Emeril’s contract was up for renewal & he & the FN couldn’t agree on the terms. I have a feeling that Emeril & perhaps some of the other really terrific chefs from FN will end up on the Fine Living channel, like Mario Batali’s Molto Mario. These folks have gotten me back into the kitchen again & given me the courage to try new things. They’ll be missed!

  25. AMH says:

Well the food network did make changes and the “semi” got it right by changing the lineup.. But I agree Emeril should not go, put him back on at 8pm est.
Make “semi” changes FTV not dumb ones..

  26. What annoys me about taking Emeril off the 8pm slot, they have substitued for repeats of Good Eats. Put another program in there or better yet, give Emeril a new program.

  27. shannon says:

I’m glad the show is being cancelled… I really use to enjoy emeril whenever he first came about and it was all about the food and now he has how many resturants and he own spice line????? Well I thought he was falling hard soon after that stupid show he had put out on nbc… After he was still on food network I knew he time would have been limited…. I mean how many different cooking shows do you need????? I hope racheal ray is next to go with her supermarket tabloid life now…. Since when does being a chief on food network give you the status of being a tv star???? I don’t know…. if they stuck to what they actually knew which is suppost to be food…. Than there would be no worries, but oh no…. It’s all about the almighty dollar! the limelight kills everything good

  28. Rich says:

All companies have fools who know better than all of the customers. Food network is evidently no exception. After they completely destroy the food network, maybe the marketing genius(s) at food tv can get a job inventing “New Coke” or something equally devestating to some other companies.

  29. Yeah, I don’t know what is up with them. I use to either watch or DVR tons of hours on the Food Network. Now it is overrun with reruns and carbon copy shows. I use to joke, but I really believe that Food Network is going to end up like MTV. There will be no Food on Food TV.

  30. chris lofstrom says:

first they didnt make john besch the new iron chef and now they cancel emeril live!!!! all of the new shows on food network are laughable to say the least. rachel ray is an idiot and giada’s head is the size of a giant pumpkin and we will not even get started on good eats and the fat guy with the tatoos who cant even cook a microwave dinner. the new shows suck and from now on my remote will just go right past food network. stop handing out crack pipes to the board of supervisor’s people!!!!!!!!!!

  31. I agree that Emeril Live should NOT have been cancelled. Why could’nt they just given him another show? No one can kick it up like Emeril!

  32. go home everyone says:

I dont care about the food network. I used to watch it, but Jesus, how many cooking shows can you watch in a day.
Barefoot Contessa – is soothing to watch though, I can actually fall asleep perfectly watching her.
Giada – Comes across as fake with a phony smile, bad for tv. And whats with all the clevage? Is that show THAT hurting for ratings?
Guy Fieri – ABSOLUTE DOUCHE BAG! This pound of dirt has interviews all of his guests with the most condescendingly, holier-than-though attitude I’ve ever seen. It’s as if he knows they suck, and you can see him laughing at them with his beedy little eyes. Dude, Guy, bro, take your fat clueless rockabilly surfer Arizona-like idiocy to the nearest pork bake and stuff yourself in it. Shut up.
    Yeah you.

  33. Steviewonder says:

The latest I heard was that The Prison Queen bought Emeril for around 42Million….. Stay tuned.

  34. exfoodie says:

Seems they are getting rid of everyone almost. Guy is the new Emeril. Rachel is the new Sara. They are only doing what the originals did only with a more “in your face” attitude. I am happy to see many of the FN chefs on PBS. Ming Tsai now has Simply Ming. Sara Moulton has Sara’s Weeknight Meals. I’ve seen Mario on a few shows as a guest. I hope Michael Chiarello returns to PBS with Napa Style. FN no longer has an asian show since Ming left. FN really has no diversity were PBS does. They did it first and apparently still do it better…hello FN are you listening? Does anyone else find it interesting that it took them this long to realize Robert Irvine lied on his resume and then fired him? Like the rest of you I find myself watching FN and HGTV less and less. But thank you since I have rediscovered PBS and it’s new Create channel I couldn’t be happier. Thanks FN oh and goodbye.

  35. BAM! says:

What i love emeril live…Your telling me ive been watching reruns of Emeril Live all the time?! WTF>!

  36. Jim says:

Emeril Live was great. The claptrap that FoodNetwork is now airing is the WORST. Who’s the Next Food Network Star? I don’t know and I don’t care. The panel who reviews the wannabes looks like 2 jews and a goyim. Enough already! Food Network 1st screwed Mario Batali and now by cancelling Emeril Live they’ve really screwed the pooch!

  37. Kaitie says:

OK, what’s up with food network, anyways? First of all, I am very TICKED to find out that someone goofed and told the whole world who the next fn star is, and now they decide to cancel one of the greatest classic shows on all of TV? I am now in 8th grade, and i have been watching Emeril ever since it came on. (seriously, my parents found out at an early age that I loved food passionitely, and just put me in front of the TV to watch Emeril before I could barely talk!) As soon as I’m old enough, I should walk my butt over to their studios and show them what a real star looks like! (me!)

  38. john c says:

FOOD NETWORK: Some how we meet the same people going down the ladder as we do going up. put another way… looks like food network forgot who took them to the dance

  39. Jewel Brown says:

I’m a late comer of Emeril’s show and have loved everyone of his reruns. Emeril doesn’t betray the typical know-it-all attitude that I have seen many other chefs or cooks show. Mr. Lagasse’s personality is just that, he has personality, he can be down to earth and yet very influential! Emeril can cook anything, quite versitile. Love his home kitchen show as well, you know the BEST TO YOU, Emeril, you deserve it all. I will continue to watch you where ever you may be. Love ya! jb
