emotional projects

I’ve been sewing, embroidering & creating art for most of my life.  In the past few weeks, I’ve had the most emotional connection to what I’ve been working on that I’ve ever experienced.

It’s been a wonderful experience to sew my own wedding dress, even though it’s been nerve-wracking too!  There have been times when I’ve been concentrating so hard on getting it “right” that my brain seems to squeak :-)   There is so much deep emotion tied up in ceremonial clothing – I think you need to acknowledge the process of creating it as well.

My mom is deep into preparations as well…  she’s weaving fabric to make my fiance’s vest (which I still need to sew!)

She’s also tatted hundreds of tiny silk butterflies for my dress…

And has crocheted the most spectacular shawl, using silk she spun, for me to wear on my wedding day!

So next time you’re working on a project with deep meaning, take the time to acknowledge & celebrate the process – don’t be afraid to feel those deep emotions that can come up!  I promise that your finished work will have all the more depth & meaning.
