Employers Find Way to Lower Diabetic Costs

Now this is an idea I’d like to see others try. A group of Chicago employers have lowered their health care costs for employees with diabetes by picking up their copays. They found that when diabetics had the test strips, needles, pills, and insulin they needed without hassle or cost, they took better care of themselves and didn’t end up in the hospital. Avoiding hospital stays saved money overall.

More than that, they found that employees had a higher overall level of satisfaction with their care. This, in turn, meant the employees had less sick days and better day-to-day health.
