Energy Group In Florida Looking For Sources of Clean Energy

Progress Energy Florida is one group that is concerned much about energy. And as one of their moves to save up on energy and keep our environment clean and cool, they have already issued a request for renewables (also known as the RFR) for three reasons:

  1. expand their renewable portfolio
  2. provide renewable energy that is not costly to all their consumers
  3. lessen the current need for more power plants

Jeff Lyash is the chief of the group and he mentions, “We are continually looking for newer, cleaner ways to produce energy. The continued development of renewable energy has been part of our balanced approach to meeting growing customer demand for years, and it will play a vital role in Florida’s energy future.”

For the state, the governor has listed criteria as per how one organization can be considered as a good renewable energy project:

  • Use renewable fuels, such as hydrogen, biomass, solar, geothermal, wind, ocean energy, hydroelectric power, or waste heat from a commercial or industrial manufacturing process.
  • Be located in Florida.
  • Be fully operational by Jan. 1, 2013.
  • Sell its electrical output to Progress Energy Florida at a cost equal to or below the cost to build new power plants.
  • Be capable of producing at least 1 MW of electric capacity. The company will consider smaller projects under certain conditions. Contact the company for more information.
  • Be capable of running in a predictable and reliable manner.

Fantastic info…I have been very interested in geothermal energy as of late, especially after Gov. Schwarzenegger formed a bill into law that set a CO2 limit on coal plants as a future source of electricity in the West Coast market. This is a good (early) time for geothermal energy production.

I would also recommend this report to everyone…
