England offers stipend for healthy pregnancy diets

While I may need another mortgage to feed my pregnant wife, England’s Department of Health has announced a one-time grant to aid in buying healthy food for pregnant women.

The cash will be given to all mothers-to-be seven months into their pregnancy, accompanied by professional health advice on maintaining a balanced diet. Women will be encouraged to spend the money on fruit and vegetables….

A report from former government NHS adviser Sir Derek Wanless is this week expected to call for action to change unhealthy lifestyles in order to reverse Britain’s growing obesity problem.

Some unofficial reports were that the grant would be approximately 120 GBP (approx $240 USD), but official amounts have not been disclosed. If my pregnant wife and I were given a food grant, I’m sure a portion of it that would be spent on the late-night snacks that we both now enjoy on a very regular basis.  It seems as though the eating never stops and I’m having a hard time fighting off the pounds.

I remember watching the jamie oliver show one time and being amazed at the sheer ignorance of the people when it came to basic nutrition.

I would find it very easy to believe that there are large numbers of pregnant Britons who simply don’t eat a single piece of fresh fruit the whole time they’re pregnant.

Those kilos you’re putting on: they’re not your friend. You’ll need your energy in the days ahead.
