Enjoy Portable Stitching Projects

I first began taking my stitching with me when I was making clothing for my daughter and myself, or had hemming projects for customers. Something that required hand stitching and was small, I could carry with me in the car. It was a way, also, to maximize my time when we were driving some distance.

Nowadays, I carry small projects like artists’ trading cards or fabric postcards that can fit into a small plastic bag, are easy to carry in a car, in an airport or on a plane.
- Making fabric yo-yos fits well into the portable project category. All you need are your yo-yo circles, needle and thread, and a small pair of scissors. I have an ongoing yo-yo pile with circles of various sizes to use in numerous projects.
- Artist Trading Cards, Inchies or Fabric Post Cards are ideal for portable projects. You also can incorporate mixed media into these.
- Knitting and Crocheting also fall into this area. I recall having an afghan over my lap in the car as I crocheted. My mother-in-law worked on crocheted squares which she later stitched together for an afghan. I also knitted scarves, as has my daughter when traveling.
What portable projects do you work on?
