Enjoying a safe Halloween

Since Halloween is tomorrow and many of us will be taking our kids out Trick or Treating, here are some safety tips to make sure everyone has a safe holiday.
Halloween safety for kids:
- Carry a flashlight or stay in well-lit areas
- Walk, don’t run wildly
- Stay on the sidewalks and look both ways before crossing a street; hold a parent’s hand
- Stay in a neighborhood you know
- Be sure your costume is visible to traffic – if it’s a black costume use reflective tape
- Costumes should fit well so they aren’t tripping hazards
- Keep away from flames on candles or in pumpkins
- If your costume requires a prop sword or knife, make sure it’s flexible rather than rigid
- If your children are going out without you because they’re older, be sure you know where they plan to go
- Make sure masks provide adequate vision
- Snopes reports that most candy tampering is not true, it is still a good idea to check through it before allowing your children to eat it. Toss anything that has been opened and re-packaged.
- If you’re the one handing out candies, make sure your home is safe by not having any tripping hazards, consider battery operated candles, and keep pets inside in case they get spooked by trick-or-treaters.
Have a wonderful and safe Halloween!
