Phillips Mushroom Farms of Kennett Square, PA, is recalling 7000 pounds of Enoki Mushrooms. The mushrooms, which were produced 1/13/09-1/30/09, may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes. Listeria Monocytogenes carry a risk of a possible fatal infection. So far no such infections have been reported as a result of the Enoki contamination.
Jim Angelucci, the general manager of Phillips Mushroom Farms, told AOL Food that a batch of mushrooms from Jan. 13 tested positive Friday for listeria, prompting the recall and lockdown of the facility that produces the enoki mushrooms.
Labels included in the recall are: PMF, Phillips Enoki, Mr. Mushroom, Organic Phillips, Publix Enoki, Giorgio Enoki, Moonlight Mushroom, Pennsylvania Dutchman, Fresh Obsession, Country Fresh, Monterey Gourmet and Elite Enoki.
“We’re urging consumers to either destroy it or take it back to their place of purchase [for a refund],” Angelucci said. “No other varieties of the mushrooms were affected.”

This is unfortunate, but I feel like this recall was handled MUCH better than the recent peanut butter recall. No one’s even gotten sick yet:http://www.findingdulcinea.com/news/Americas/2009/feb/Pennsylvania-Farm-Issues-Mushroom-Recall-After-Listeria-Fears.html
I agree. They sure produce some beautiful mushrooms. I hope that they are able to solve the problem quickly.
