(www.livelywomen.com) — In honor of Scott’s hilarious Health and Men post on how “prostitute” is now a dirty word (evidently we have to say “commercial sex worker” instead!), here’s a fun challenge for Lively Women readers:
Leave a comment on this post sharing the funniest euphemism you can think of for “prostitute” / “whore” (or “ho”) / “hooker” / “commercial sex worker.”
For example, my middle school history book referred to prostitutes as “accommodating women” and “women of accommodating morals” What’s a ridiculously refined way to talk about prostitution in polite company? Leave your euphemism in the comments before Monday August 25, and 11:59 p.m. and I will pick my favorite and send the winner a mystery prize package of my choosing. And no, it won’t be anything from your friendly neighborhood “freelance pharmaceutical entrepreneur.”
Rules and Regulations (the fine print)
- Anyone can enter, but only US residents are eligible for the mystery prize.
- Entries must be clean langauge only — that’s the whole point!
- You can enter as many times as you want.
- I will pick the winner, but if I can’t decide which is my favorite, I’ll ask my fellow Health and Wellness Channel bloggers to vote and help me chose. All decisions are final.
Ready? GO!

The only prostitute-nickname I can think of that is appropriate in civilized conversation is “harlot”… or maybe, “one who offers horizontal refreshment”…
But here’s the real reason I’m leaving this comment… Do you know the origin of the term “hooker”? If not let me know… it’s really a very amusing story.
