Ever wonder how drs learn how to do Cesareans?

This isn’t for the queazy but if you can handle simulated surgery, I have something interesting for you. There’s a new learning tool at the University of Florida College of Medicine Jacksonville called the Simulated Cesarean Section. Using a lifelike dummy, students can realistically learn how to do a C-section and practice dealing with various complications.

Learning tools like this allow the students to learn in a less stressful environment than in the operating room itself. It also allows the students to play other roles they wouldn’t normally, such as being the OR nurse. By being in that role, they can gain a better understanding of the tools and the way that the nurses function in the OR.

If you’d like to watch the video, the language is geared towards medical professionals, as the narrator describes the technique, But it is very interesting. Just click on the TV screen below to watch:

Please come back and tell us what you think about the video. It would be very interesting to hear what non-professionals think.

Wow! That was very interesting. Initially, I thought it would be simulated with the fluids, which would make it quite messy, but it wasn’t. Even when there was a bleed, it wasn’t gross, lol. I did squirm with imagined discomfort, as they pulled her abdomen, then uterus open… it’s hard to believe the body can take so much resistance/strain.

Do watch if you haven’t, it is extremely eye opening. Doctors are amazing, as are the women who undergo this incredible surgery.
