Daisies are one of those flowers loved by many. They’re cute and pretty at the same time, come in excellent color choices, and are a popular theme of weddings, fashion, books, parties, kids toys and more. I have a feeling that daisies will never be totally out of style. If you agree and adore them, here’s a little guide to all things daisy.

How to grow: Tips for growing daisy flowers.
About the species: Daisies are part of the Asteraceae family which is also known as the aster, daisy, or sunflower family. Daisy is general, in reality there’s over 20,000-23,000 different species of the family Asteraceae, many of them daisy-like flowers. You’ve got African, English, Shasta, Painted, Michaelmas, Gloriosa, and sooooooo many more.Wise Geek has a short guide to types of daisies, but if you want an in-depth look I’d turn off the computer and head to the library. Look for The Plantfinder’s Guide to Daisies or a substantial all flower guide that will feature plenty of daisies like Annuals & Perennials.
The meaning of the daisy – “innocence”
Daisy as a name: Daisy ranked #161 in baby girl name popularity last year and comes from an English origin. The name Daisy means “Day’s eye”, from the old English. If you do name your babe Daisy, I’d for sure get a daisy onesie.

Can you eat them?: Some daisy flowers are edible but always consult a good edible flower guide book before eating any flower. Of course you can eat pretty little created daisies or place them on cakes – like the beautiful Gum Paste Gerber Daisies Cake Decorations shown above from Diane’s Cakes and More. If you’re very crafty, why not make your own gum paste daisies? Well, technically you can eat gum paste flowers, but they don’t taste great. IF you are going to eat them for taste, try sugar frosting daisies.
