Exterior Painting Tips

I know, I know, it seems I am covering a lot of painting related topics eh! But there is a reason for that and that is it is that time of year when we need to get the dust off of our paint brushes and get ready to work on the outside of our homes so we can sit back and enjoy our summers.

Exterior Painting can at the best of times be a nasty chore to do. You need lots of different size ladders to reach all those hard to hit spots and perfect weather to make sure you can get everything done fairly quickly with out having the project drag on for weeks and weeks. So with most of us not liking to paint the exterior of our homes we tend to rush and jump right into it when we have to do it with out thinking if we are doing it right!

Spring time weather can cause a lot of problems for exterior paint if the temperature does not stay above plus 10 at night. (that is in Celsius)  The reason why the outside temperature needs to stay above that point is because in order for exterior paints to cure and set up properly they need it to be warm.

What happens if it does not stay warm outside?

Well to put it in plan terms that everyone will understand. Your going to be redoing your paint job if you don’t make sure the temperature is not just right when you start to paint. I know is the southern US your never going to run into these problems ever but when you live in the northern states or in Canada this is a major issue for sure.

So my exterior painting tip today has to be for you not to rush it and make sure it is staying above plus 10 at night. I don’t want you guys to have to do the same thing I have to do this year (that’s right folks, my lessons learned are usually the ones learned the hard way) and that is to redo some of my exterior painting.
