Eyelash Transplants

Eyelashes by jurvetsonEarlier this month I did a little speed linking about a growing awareness in the cosmetic/beauty industry for options that support the fragile self-confidence of some who have lost their hair. I linked to a trio of articles, one of which introduced Jaudon Sunde, a medical tattoo artist who works with chemotherapy patients to augment thinning eyebrows and eyelashes. Fast forward to today and a story from icWales.

Our topic today is eyelash transplants. Yes, eyelash transplants, the transfer of hair from the scalp to the eyelids. Of course, like so many things in America, the technique was developed to appease the vanity of wealthy women who could neither accepts themselves nor be bothered with mascara. Surely, I jest.

But there is something real here, a potential benefit that has actual merit. Eyelashes aren’t just for fluttering. Au contraire! Eyelashes protect the eye. Like the hair on your head, eyelashes provide an early warning that something dangerous is near, triggering a reflexive flinch and shutting of the eyelids. No eyelashes, no early warning. No early warning, increased potential for eye injury.

So, there. I’m not entirely cynical. There are silver eyelashes on this black eye.
