Eyes in the back of my head

My daughter is starting to believe that old saying that mothers and fathers have eyes in the back of their head, that they can always see what you’re up to.
Back in December we got a nice, new-to-us three-piece wall unit for our living room. The piece on the left has glass doors with shelves behind the doors. My daughter has a habit of trying to be sneaky about things over in the dining room, which is reflected in our glass doors.
Between December and now, I can’t tell you how many times my husband or I have suddenly said, “get off the table” or “put the flour canister down” while we’ve been sitting facing the television. My husband is even more impressive since he tends to stretch out on the couch so his head isn’t even visible.
She can’t figure it out, and she’s a little awed by our superhuman vision powers. It makes me wonder what reflective surfaces my own mother used to use when I too thought mothers developed secret eyes.
