Fabric Postcard Gifts

My daughter created lovely gifts to give this Christmas, which you could consider when you need birthday, thank-you, and Christmas gifts in the future. She has been experimenting with fabric postcards for several months and doing lovely work.

Some of her colleagues send these through the mail as Christmas cards. They also send them for birthdays, anniversaries, and thank-you.

However, Beth turned them into matted, framed pictures. These were scenes, made with fabric, trims, and beads. Then she placed each on a mat board, to give a border around the card, and enclosed it in a frame. One she covered with glass; the other she didn’t.

Another way to display your postcards is mounting six of them on a large piece of mat board. Separate them with fabric strips, trim, or pieces of wood. Then place in a frame.

Yet another could be a window frame with six smaller panes. Place the larger mat, with six postcards attached, behind this, so the pane dividers frame the pictures.

Fabric postcards make lovely gifts and can be displayed in many unique ways.©2005

I think the fabric postcards are a wonderful Idea…today is the first time I came across this type of art…while trying to get my designs publised, I realize there are many talented people out there doing fabric art… not much help getting started…everyone wants to sell you something…but then that is the way of the world…I do not have anything to sell…I give my art to my loved ones, they are pieces of me and I think in the tradition of other American Folk artists..I dont always sign my work but i am leaning more towards that right now…..as life gets more expensive, it would be nice to have more cash but i am not motivated by money…never have been….I just love to do….anyway….let me know how to make one and I will send you a postcard…who knows, when i return to the “spirit” world….you can say i have one of her first, if not THE first post card she ever made….keep on creating…that is what HE wants us to do…Love Jeanne
