Facts about Moms for Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is just about a month away, May 11, 2008. In the spirit of this upcoming holiday, here are a few facts about mothers in the United States (all according to the US Census Bureau):

1. There were 82.8 million mothers living in the United States in 2004.

2. Fifty-five percent of US women aged 15 to 44 years old are mothers.

3. Eighty-one percent of US women aged 40 to 44 years old are mothers.

4. Mothers in the United States have an average of 2.1 children.

5. Of US states, Utah has the highest birth rate at 94 per 1000 women in 2006. Vermont had the lowest rate, at 52.2 births per 1000 women.

6. 4.3 million babies were born in the United States in 2006.

7. August had the highest number of births in that year: 369,316.

8. Tuesday was the day with the most births in 2006.
