Family Trivia Night

It’s Family Game night! What’s your family playing? Maybe Dad’s taking out a board game. Or maybe little Ben wants everyone to play video games. No wait, Mom wants to play Charades again. Big sister Chrissy wants to have a dance-off. Familiar games are lots of fun, but what if you bring Family Game night even closer to family?

Create a “Family Trivia Night” game. The game master puts together a list of questions and answers about family. It can range from favorites (What was Grandpa and Grandma’s favorite term of endearment for each other?) to recipes (What potato dish is Aunt Sophie’s specialty?) to achievements (Cousin Bryan graduated summa cum laude from what university?) to anything interesting about your family (How many pet dogs did Uncle Bill have before Buster?). It’s an exciting way to bond with the family, and you get to know one another better too.

To keep the game fresh, game master can alternate week by week (Mom this week, Dad next week, etc.). Keep adding new questions and answers to the game to keep it interesting. And the bigger the group, the more fun it is to play too! You can consider having a game like this during family reunions.

For our family game night, there’s no trivia game I know of that would actually be fun to everyone – there’s just too many generations and lifestyles, and the same person always seems to win.

We are now playing one of the newer games out, Do Tell the Relationship game. Everyone can answer the questions (Tell Cards) and the Do Cards are generation and gender free. Pretty cool and a lot of fun. We play about once a month to get us all connected, it turns our “family game time” into “family quality time”
