Fast Food Facts

Fast food is convenient…a little too convenient big-mac-extra-value-meal.jpgand I’d be lying if I said that I don’t partake every now and then. I try to eat subway when I can if I have to eat out during my lunch break. People are aware that fast food is high in calories but most people underestimate how much calories they are taking in and a typical Mcdonalds value meal contains about 50% of your daily recommended 2000 calories. Here are a few numbers to think about and perhaps avoid next time you visit the golden arches.

A triple think Shake contains 1110 calories!
5 Piece Chicken Selects 630 Calories, 300 from fat
Double 1/4 Pounder w/ cheese 740 calories
McRib holds 500 calories, 240 from fat
Premium Crispy Chicken Club sandwich -660, grilled-570

Breakfast meals contain anywhere from about 700 to 1500 calories, depending what you feeling like throwing down your gullet.

Here is a few calorie cutting tactics when ordering fast food.
1. Ask for the sandwich without the bread. You may get a funny look but they will do it for you.
2. No mayo, no cheese, no bacon on your sandwich. Stick to mustard and ketchup.
3. When ordering a salad, use low fat dressings. No Creamy Style dressing.
4. If you must order a salad with chicken get the grilled chicken.
5. Fish is only healthy when its not battered and deep fried so avoid thinking that your doing yourself a favor by eating a fish sandwich.
6. Drink diet or water. If you live in the south you know how sweet is in sweet tea. Avoid that too or sweeten it with splenda. This goes for coffee too. Best bet? Drink it black!
7. Avoid the obvious “fat-pills” like sundays, shakes, and pies (to include Mcflurries which have about 550 calories)
8. Think about what you want and how to cut the calories before you get to the counter and make a fast decision. Your more apt to order something fatty when you are rushed. Take your time and make the best of it.

One last thing is to remember all of this when your children eat at Mcdonalds. All things are good in moderation (with the exception of things like crack cocaine and stuff like that).

i have one more thing to add to the list of foods that be ordered in a new Frito Lays…the nutritional value can be checked….

  2. better than other fast food? I heard recently that they aren’t entirely honest about the calories in the food and dressings. It’s obviously better than mcdonald’s for example, but is it healthy to eat it on a regular basis? Working in midtown nyc has many options but they’re pricey. Even a salad can cost up to ten bucks a piece. It’s tough being healthy without having much extra spending cash. Thanks for the post.

It doesnt take a rocket surgeon to figure out what is good for you and what is not good for you on sub sandwich. Obviously if your dumping a crap load of ranch of mayo on a sub it takes away from the nutritional value. If your smart about it and limit yourself to a six inch sub to try to control your carbs and pick lean meats and vegetables on wheat bread I think subway can be much better than any product from burger joints.

Sorry if I sounded as if I was being arrogant on that last comment. I wasn’t. Just making a statement that sounded a bit abbrasive. Enjoy

Theres no doubt subway sandwiches are tasty. but its not only carbs your taking in. What about all the salt they put in? And all the othe chemicals and fat in their cheap chicken?

Any cold cut sanwhich is going to be loaded with sodium as they add it to the meats as a preservative. But honeslty…it is still better than what you could get at mcdonalds, wendy’s or burger king. There really aren’t any fast food places that are good for you unless you stick to a salad with a lite dressing. Discipline and moderation and knowledge go a long way.

    hi,
macdonalds put chicken fat in the milkshakes and the mcflurries. They put floor sweepings in the chicken nuggets

  8. Scott says:

C’mon now. Maybe a disgruntled employee may do that, but I’ce cream is Ice cream and the nuggets come frozen and get dropped in a deep fat fryer. Like I said, the only way that would happen if they have an employee that hates working there and hates the customers.

I find the fact that Mcdonalds employees hate their job because they have to deal with cutomers that look down upon them and the fact that they are not paid well, but that’s fast food for you. Even the managers are not paid well. It’s a miserable job that I would never want. I’ve worked in food service and fast food is not something I would make a career of because there is no gratification in it what so ever. Fine dining is a different story. When someone enjoys a Quarter pounder they don’t compliment the cook but when you serve a perfect fillet at a nice restaurant you know the customer is satisfied and they often let you know.

Get your ass up and do some exercise then you don’t have to worry about dieting. You can eat anything you like. Food is human’s luxury. Why do we have to give up what we like?
Exercise is a secret of dieting.
