Fasting Update: Day 2

If you’ve never tried it before, I’ll tell you one thing about fasting you may not know: It gets easier every day.

It seems counter-intuitive, I know; the logical thing is to think about how much your hunger will increase each day. At the beginning of the day, I was hungry, but it faded. And I’m thrilled to report that none of the bothersome symptoms from the first day –headache, light-headedness, etc.—appeared.

Ingrid got me thinking when she left one of her usual wonderful comments: the sort of thought processes I experienced yesterday ARE my ‘normal’ kind of thought processes; rather than cause them, I’d say fasting simply strengthened the power of them. If I could choose one term to describe the effect fasting has on all aspects of your life, it would be amplification. Get ready to face the good and the bad about yourself.

Thank goodness the emotions did calm down a bit, especially since I had some upsetting experiences that would have sent me over the edge yesterday. I did notice my irritability increased a bit, but that’s easier to deal with.

As evening neared, something wonderful happened: I began to feel very, very calm. It’s a nice feeling.

That doesn’t mean I fell asleep, though. Oh no! On both fasting nights, even though I felt physically tired, my brain raced along, making sleep impossible. I managed maybe two hours of sleep each night.

So, second day better than the first. One to go…

    hey there…

I just am finishing day 1 of my 3 day water fast (so you’re 1 day ahead of me). I want to say: keep on doing it, good luck! I’ve done these before, and you really do feel good–and good about yourself!–in the end.

Just watch how you break your fast; one time I didn’t pay attention and got really ill.

Good luck to you; you’re inspiring me to stick with my program, too!
