Fatherhood Facts?
The National Fatherhood Initiative has a listing of the top fatherhood facts. As I looked over the list I was immediately struck by how negative the list is. It focuses primarily on the side effects of bad fathers and broken homes rather than the positive influence of involved and caring dads. I’m just rather surprised that a group which is essentially a father’s advocacy group would put out a list that reads as though it was written by a jilted single mother.
That said, the last of the top ten was informative and worth mentioning:
Children with involved, loving fathers are significantly more likely to do well in school, have healthy self-esteem, exhibit empathy and pro-social behavior, and avoid high-risk behaviors such as drug use, truancy, and criminal activity compared to children who have uninvolved fathers.

Yikes — that was pretty weird. It’s almost like using scare tactics to get dads involved.

fatherhood is a position that society expects men to live down to.
i rebel against that.
never let anyone pretend that the word ‘parent’ means ‘mother’ only.
I think Brent put it nicely. I’m also less than amused when fathers are portrayed as bumbling idiots.
I may be an idiot, but I know for a fact that I don’t bumble.
