FDA Has New Power Over Tobacco

Yesterday President Obama signed new legislation that gives more power to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) over the “manufacturing, marketing and sale of tobacco.” This is especially important for young people. Many folks first start smoking when they are very young, and in doing so create a lifelong habit that is very hard to break.

The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act allows the FDA to control the type of marketing associated with tobacco, including the terms companies use on their packages.
