"The Venetian's Wife" is also a good one. Brian Froud also did something along these lines with "Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Book", and there's a whole series of "-ology" books for Young Adults (Dragonology, Piratology, etc) that are similar to this genre. Personally, I'm in awe of the amount of cross-disciplinary skill it takes to do this.
