Finding Time for…

A regular reader of this blog, Olivia of happyluau, posed an interesting question on her blog yesterday in response to the entry I posted on 150 Resources for Writers.

“How do you find time to be creative? How do you glean your creative time?”

For me, the best way I get anything done, that I really want to do, is to simply make room for it. Just like teeth brushing, bed making and other general habits, if I want to do it I make a little space for it. Sometimes ten minutes is really all I have. I work out when I’ll use that ten minutes and I will definitely use them. Excuses always pop up. Like, I’m tired, or there are other things that need doing. If I really want to write in my journal I make sure I do. If I want to draw or doodle I make sure I grab a moment to do this, too.

Anyway, that’s me. How do you find the time for creating whatever it is you create? Answer in the comments section if you like, or head over to Olivia’s blog to comment there.

Heather, I posted today about what I’ve learned so far and included a great Walter Mosley quote. I’ve basically come to the same conclusion you have about being creative as a daily habit; however, I want to make time so that this fall I can do more, what Walter Mosley calls “inhabiting the dream of my story”. We’ll see how it goes :)

  2. Hi Olivia,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts so far. It will be interesting to see what else you discover. ;-)
