Fingers flying off, hands nailed to walls…

Ok folks, you really do have to watch those power tools. This is a blog about pain and power tools do a very good job of inducing pain.
Personally, I am absolutely terrified of power saws of any kind. I was a long time ago well before I actually knew someone who was injured. Several years ago, my boss’s husband cut off three fingers with a saw. I kid you not when she told me one finger went flying into the neighbor’s yard. ACK!
When I was a kid, I remember lying sick in the nurse’s office (a familiar scenario for me), when I overheard the janitor talking on the phone about his son who had cut his toes off with a lawn mower. Ouch. Did I mention that lawn mowers terrify me too?
A friend of mine has a rather, shall we say portly, husband. She never bugs him about his weight because his stomach fat saved his life when he cut his side open with a chain saw. He decided to "trim" some bushes with said chain saw and when it hit a big limb, the saw bucked and came back on my friend’s husband. Ouch.
I’ve had a contractor in the house for the past five weeks or so, doing major renovations. He has a pneumatic gun and those things – guess what – terrify me. (OK, I’m a wimp) I’ve heard of accident with these things. Now I have proof. Head on over to the blog, Your ER Doc and read, Nailed it… Himself to the wall that is. Ouc. See? I’m right to be scared of these things!
Should I tell you of the time I worked in intensive care and we had a contruction worker who fell off a scaffolding and was impaled on a post? OUCH.
(oh, and my 17 year old is telling me he’s going to be a cabinet maker. We found the program for him and everything. And I thought I could ease off worrying just a bit…)
