Both the bus driver and the monitor who did not see that a 4-year-old ASD boy was left on the bus until 2pm on Monday have been fired, as reported in the December 1st Hartford Courant. The Hartford School District has “referred the matter to the police and to the state Department of Children and Families for further investigation.”

Well that presumably gets the school district / transport provider off the hook? How much do they pay these people to take care of the most important little people in our lives, perchance a tad over the minimum wage?
Quite a bit and maybe too much……. One wonders if that might be a reason for contracting out for transportion, to shift or spread the blame around….
I’m glad the caveat was still there — that the police investigation isn’t finished yet. Endangering a child’s life like this, no matter what the disability, is a terrible thing.
this happened yesterday to my cousins autistic son 5 year old in leavenworth kansas luckely he is ok but he is afraid to go back to school. locked in 3 hours and they called his mother 45 min later after they found out who he was. she took him to the doctor and they treated him for dehydration. she does not know the next step to make people take responsibility for their actions. she has notified the police and they have not done anything yet.
