Laura Bush: An Intimate Portrait of the First Lady

Almost two years ago, my friend Christina Jones, who writes eBeautyDaily, was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. The cancer was on her nose. Ever since then she slathers on sunscreen on any bit of skin that’s exposed, which can be a bit of a pain. She says, “Good thing I don’t go out much. ;)

Just like Christina, Laura Bush had a squamous cell tumor removed from her shin in November. It started as a sore that wouldn’t heal and was later found to be malignant. The final wound was about the size of a nickel.

Both Christina and Laura Bush are fine today but have a 40 percent higher risk of developing new turmors within five years of their initial diagnosis. Follow-up visits to the doctor are essential and you can bet I’ll be bugging Christina about it regularly!

I had a squamous cell cancer removed from my arm two weeks ago. I wish First Lady Laura Bush had revealed hers sooner. It has made me realize that there are far worse things than than the removal of cancerous lessions. I could be married to George Bush as well.

  2. Clarke: A good sense of humor is great for recovery too. :) All the best!
