Five simple rules for diabetics

ChangeOne for Diabetes, a book by Ms.Pat Harper suggests five simple
rules for diabetics to lower blood sugar and lose weight. These
recommendations are based on a successful one year study at University
of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where Ms.Harper is the coordinator of
nutrition and weight loss studies. The five simple rules according to
Ms.Harper
- Eat every 4 to 5 hours throughout the day;
- Eat balanced meals that include a protein food, a starch, a vegetable and/or fruit;
- Choose lower fat foods;
- Eat smaller portions of everything but veggies;
- Become more active.
The study, called Diabetes Obesity Intervention Trial, involved 52 overweight adults with non insulin-dependent Type 2 diabetes. After a year of the start of the study, the participants had an average 8% weight loss. The book also includes 100 delicious recipes, 200 photos, diagrams, demonstrations and tips.
