Five Tips for Dodging the Beedies

I realize that if you are reading this blog, it’s probably too late to talk about prevention — “Yeah, thanks. Ass.” — but the Mayo Clinic has produced a pretty no-nonsense list of tips for missing out on the neverending fiesta that is diabetes. Pass this on to friends and family who are at risk, unless of course you are still bittter and resentful that they get to eat all the donuts while you’re stuck eating lettuce and paper. (In which case, click over to something else real quick until they leave.)
Here are the tips; go visit the article for all the fine print.
1. Lose extra weight.
Because the Beedies loves fat people.
2. Skip fad diets.
You’ll miss out on important nutrients, and after some short term losses, you’ll just end up rebounding back to fatliness, and that’s after you threw out all your old clothes and blew you last paycheck at Abercrombie. Instead, think variety and portion control.
3. Get plenty of fiber.
It’ll help your blood sugar, reduce the risk of heart problems, and help you lose weight by making you feel full faster. Budget poo time accordingly, though.
4. Go for whole grains.
This one’s getting easier as more and more foods go on the whole grains kick. Warning, though. A lot of these products are pretty good, but frankly, some of them taste like butt.
5. Get more physical activity.
Remember, it’s harder for the Beedies to catch you if you present a moving target.

Hey, just wanted to let you know I enjoy your diabetes blog. It’s not too late for me to think about prevention, although I am at risk, and I appreciate the information you share here. And I really am interested in diabetes, I’m not just weird stalker who must read every word written by The Rob.
On a side note, I walked in the ADA’s Walk for Diabetes today in New Haven. It was a gorgeous fall day out at Lighthouse Point Park.
