If you knew that your flight would likely be delayed, you’d probably still arrive at the airport on time, correct? Yet, wouldn’t it be nice to know in advance with greater certainty just how long of a delay you’re going to experience? And, especially for frequent travelers, that advanced delay notice may even mean you know when to rebook a flight.

FlightCaster, a new online tool, claims to be able to predict delays up to six hours before takeoff. They use their own algorithm with real-time data, as well as info from the National Weather Service and other flight data.
The new service for domestic flights is aimed at the frequent flier. The FlightCaster website says that they want to empower travelers to “proactively avoid delay situations rather than waiting until it is too late.” They noted that they’re not simply repeating info from the FAA. They describe their service as the next generation of flight information – predicting 95%+ of flight delays. However, they still won’t be able to predict unexpected mechanical failure.
The FlightCaster website is free to use, but an iPhone or Blackberry app will cost $4.99.
