A number of students at the Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) are excited about an upcoming project that the school is having. This project is a solar farm and the students are psyched. One of the students, Erika Klopf, a junior, said, “You empathize with (the environment) and form a relationship with it.” And that is the reason why she volunteered her time to prepare the spot where the solar farm will be built this July.
Klopf, along with 29 other students, had worked five hours on the area. They transferred the plants that grew there. The list of plants included young pines, orchids, and ferns. They had to do such a thing on the whole 19 acres. Klopf said, “There was no alternative but to clear the space. I decided I wanted to be part of the solution.”
The solar farm that will be rising on the site is actually from Regenesis. This company from California is very much aware of the benefits of renewable energy and would like to share that with other people. The whole solar farm costs around $17 million and it is estimated that the power from the project will be able to make the school’s energy bills go down by 16% to 18%.
