Food Noise

There’s a really great article in the Huffington Post by Bethenny Frankel about “food noise.” If you don’t know Bethenny, you really should! I first spotted her on Martha Stewart’s Apprentice show (which she came in second and really should have won! – but I digress…) These days you can find her on the Real Housewives of New York City.

Bethenny is a natural food chef, and is also gorgeous and thin. Why is that important? Because she’s written a book called NATURALLY THIN: Unleash Your Skinnygirl and Free Yourself from a Lifetime of Dieting.
Back to her article about food noise, which she defines as that “constant irritating and obsessive voice inside our heads constantly chattering about what we ate, what we didn’t, that we were good for not eating or bad for eating something decadent.” And isn’t that the truth! When we enjoy a treat we immediately regret eating and then do something crazy like skip lunch or breakfast the next day. What “naturally” thin people know is that no food is out of bounds. Balance is the key. If you eat a sugary treat one meal, follow it up with a healthy meal after that. Don’t skip the meal entirely. (Or go on a crash diet.)
It’s about moderation. No one food item is bad. It’s the sum of how you live your life that will define whether you are thin or heavy (and healthy). Don’t make it all or nothing.
