FPL Announces Florida's Largest Solar FacilityThe Florida Power & Light Company has announced the site of its first solar array as part of their Sunshine Energy program. The 250-kilowatt (kW) PV solar project will be built at Rothenbach Park in Sarasota.

Rothenbach Park is county land and part of the now-closed Bee Ridge Landfill. The solar array will be built with 1,200 PV panels and encompass more than 28,000 square feet, or about half of a football field in size.

Under the Sunshine Energy program, residential customers can purchase renewable energy at an extra cost of $9.75 per month which ensures that 1,000 kilowatt hours of clean juice is generated and FPL has pledged to add another 150 kW of solar capacity for every 10,000 customers that sign-up.

Here’s the press release of FPL’s announcement.
