From High Chair to Child’s Chair

Forty years ago, my mom bought a wooden high chair. Five kids sat in it to eat their meals. Then, two more sat in it when they visited Grams. A few years later, a final child sat in the old high chair to eat. By then, the foot rest was missing and the original safety strap had been replaced by a more modern safety harness.

Then, disaster struck in the form of a little dog. He chowed down on the back lower rung of the high chair and splintered the wood all up before we even realized what he was doing. I couldn’t bear to think of all those memories going down the drain, so I decided to see if I could saw off the legs above the damaged rung to make a short child’s chair for the family room. I got out my saw and then I handed it to someone else because I am unable to cut things off straight.
After the legs were shortened, I added a little high chair seat cover I found to make the chair cushy. (Is cushy a word or did I make that up?) The kids literally were lined up to sit in it, so I think I was successful!
