Fun and Funky Flip Flops

Flip flops are a summer staple and an essential for going to the beach.  For today’s Camp Weary Parent activity we are getting creative with our feet.

Stop in at the dollar store or another discount store and pick up a few pairs of inexpensive flip flops for the kids. Then collect a variety of craft materials such as fabric scraps, beads, sequins, and funky yarns (like Feather Yarn-Denim Print).

Fabric-tie flops: Cut scrap fabric into rectangles about an inch wide and two inches long.  Starting at the center of the flip flops, use single knots to tie the strips around the flip-flop straps, pushing the knots close together as you go. Keep adding strips until the straps are completely covered.

Flops with bling: Using craft glue or low-heat glue gun, decorate the straps with sequins, beads, ric-rack or pom-poms. Get really creative and pick a theme and glue theme related embellishments on.

Get your feet ready with a home pedicure (check Skin and Nails: Care Tips for Girls) or try some of the other fun spa activities for teens and tweens.

Don’t miss any of the fun – visit the Camp Weary Parent page for a complete listing of all the activities.
